What is a Web Page?A web page is a collection of text, graphics and sound that you make available for others to come to visit, or see through the use of web browsers, such as, NetScape or Internet Explorer.
How Do People Find Your Web Page?
People find your Web Page, or site, through word of mouth, links from other web pages, or through the use of search engines.
A search engine is designed to help a person locate a person, place or subject that they are interested in knowing more about. These search engines help you to navigate your way through many of the millions of Web Pages, Sites, and information that is available via the World Wide Web.
Effective use of the search engines is a must for any web site. Many people have developed web sites, but no one knows that they exist. If you are not getting people to come to your web site, you have eliminated the contacts you originally set out to make.
Additional methods of having your web site found by others, is to include reciprocal links, advertisements or a number of other methods of drawing people to your web site.
Reciprical links are a method of sharing automatic links, or contact, between two sites, "You tell people about me ... and I'll tell people about you".
Advertising banners are another method of drawing people to your site. A banner advertiser provides a service where your banner is shown on thousands of other sites, while you show other sites' banners on your site. This "You show me, I'll show you" is becoming a very popular method of advertising.
Why would you want your own Web Page?
As an individual, Web Pages can be fun for you and the entire family. It is a place to share information about yourself, your friends or your family. Many people have gone as far as to include their personal Family Trees on their web page.
What About for Businesses?
For the business, the products and services available to people is the largest draw. Making it possible for people to "shop" the web, from the comfort of their own home or office, is becoming more and more in demand.
Whether you are down the street, across town, or around the world, you are now available to anyone with a computer or access to one.
Just as an informational reference to your business, a place to let people know that you exist, that alone is enough reason to have your own web page. But the sales potential available to you can make owning a web page quite lucrative for a business.
If, for instance, you sell pens, does it matter if you sell it to someone next door or to someone who lives in Austraila? No! Your job is to sell that pen. And provide products and services to anyone interested in what your business has to offer.
Suddenly, the World Wide Web has opened up an entire new, uncharted market place for your business. And the cost to you, compared to advertising on television or in the newspaper is pennies, compared with the exposure now available to you.
Statistics have shown, that more and more people gaining access to the Internet. No longer is it just a method of sending electronic mail, email, but a place for buying products that go well beyond just computers and software.
You are now able to buy virtually anything that can be purchased in a traditional store, can now be purchased through the internet, on the World Wide Web.
Is Your Product Available?
If your services and products are not available via the Web, then you are doing yourself a great injustice and cutting off a large new audience of clients.
Imagine being able to sit at home and shop for anything from a new or used car, to a down comforter, to a model train, to a basket of fruit or a box of candy? And, actually place the order without leaving your house?
This is the potential that is available to you as a business!
Sales without sales people! Income from sources you once had no access to nor means of advertising, the entire world is suddenly located right next door!
