In Anticipation

It's funny ...
how someone can fill another's life so completly.

It's as if a hole exists inside us, one that seeks a tree,
something to grow and nurture.

As if aching to be filled with love and kindness,
caring and tenderness, beyond belief.

It brings you comfort in the spring time,
as you watch it flourish, bringing new life with it.

It gives you protection in the summer,
from the heavy heat of the sun, or the coming of a storm.

It provides you with a touch of sadness or nostalgia in the fall,
as all of its leaves begin to wilt and fade away.

It holds out hope for you in the winter, when you remember
what you shared throughout the year, in anticipation of the coming spring.

But how empty it feels, when that tree is taken away, and how incomplete
you become without it, growing outside a window beside you.
